Who I am is directly composed of who my people are. I come from a rather large family of three boys and five girls. My personality is very eclectic, and it is a result of the pieces I have taken from each of them.
My family has always expressed how proud they were of me and my achievements. But here, I get a chance to express how proud I am of my family. We are truly survivors. Even in the midst of our own troubles, we still reach out to and be there for others. Despite the turmoil, we still do what we have to do and make the most out of our situations. Things constantly come up threatening to tear us down, but we always bounce back stronger, ready for the next fight.
I have done all I've done because God has given me the strength and ability to do so and because I have the love and support of an awesome family and because I have inherited their strength and endurance.
From my Father,
My nature of calmness or as some like to call my limited display of emotion
From my Mother,
My ability to love hard and unconditionally
From Karl,
My sense of style
From Rickie,
My business sense
From Beverly,
My ability to work with and mentor others, especially troubled youth
From Angela,
My nature of forgiveness and compassion
From Sharon,
My intelligence
From Vicki,
My nature of perfection and pride
From Ray,
My creativity
There has been many struggles along the way, but we have always survived and made it through by the grace of God and through the power of prayer. For those familiar with the Tyler Perry play, Madea's Family Reunion, you may be familiar with the ending song, a Family That Prays Together Stays Together. The lyrics are as follows: My nature of calmness or as some like to call my limited display of emotion
From my Mother,
My ability to love hard and unconditionally
From Karl,
My sense of style
From Rickie,
My business sense
From Beverly,
My ability to work with and mentor others, especially troubled youth
From Angela,
My nature of forgiveness and compassion
From Sharon,
My intelligence
From Vicki,
My nature of perfection and pride
From Ray,

We are a family, that's been through so much pain.
We stand together, through sunshine and the rain.
We fuss and fight, but we love each other so.
When in trouble, on our knees we go.
We've learned that a family that prays together,
stays together.
I have learned a lot about being a woman and I deem my mother and sisters to be pillars of strength. I can only hope that their pains and struggles that have built up their massive amounts of endurance will extend throughout the lives of
myself and the generation beneath me: Ashely, T'yera, Karletta, Brittany, and Lisa. Similarly, I hope that my nephews: Kevin, Jamar, Darius, and Jeff, will grow up appreciating the women in their lives
and strive to be positive male role models as they have seen demonstrated by the positive influences in our family, and likewise, learn from and avoid the mistakes of those who have fallen short. For my great-nephew, Rahsann,
I hope that by the time he grows up that our family will have firmly established a great legacy worth passing on, and I know that we will because God has always been on our side and brought us through each and every obstacle we've faced. We stand together, through sunshine and the rain.
We fuss and fight, but we love each other so.
When in trouble, on our knees we go.
We've learned that a family that prays together,
stays together.
